Situated near via Salaria in Nerola, a few kilometers north of Rome, the Orsini Castle dominates, from its high position and as far as the eye can see, the fertile countryside of the Sabina all the way to the Tiber Valley and the green Monti Lucretii. Built in the X century on the ruins of an ancient Sabina fortress, after having been an impregnable rampart during the incursions of the Saracens and the Hungarians, the Castle was given in feud to Francesco Orsini at the end of the XIII century. Enlarged and reinforced, it was always more and more impregnable. The power of the Orsini family prospered for centuries within the walls of this castle, increasing the family influence in the events of Rome and the Papacy. During the Risorgimento, in 1867, a unit of Garibaldini, led by Menotti Garibaldi, barricaded in the tower, resisting the assault of the papal troops. The battle was lost, but bearing witness to the episode are the bullet marks on the ancient walls of the terrace that dominates the village. The charming hotel boasts an accommodating capacity of 51 rooms (Suites and Junior Suites), a restaurant, splendid entertainment halls, swimming pool and a Beauty Farm. The Orsini Castle in Nerola, is a very particular hotel for those who cherish beauty and want to live, with their imagination, the mysteries and old stories of a manor that bear witness to battles, intrigues, loves and crimes. But today’s wars are the conferences, conventions and business meetings. For these events the Castle has become the most beautiful and special on the scene: while maintaining its austere elegance, the hotel offers convention rooms, comfortable and quiet meeting rooms, lunches and dinners amidst frescoes and old paintings, terrace, crenellated towers and secret passages. Walking through the little alleys and squares of a restored old village will take you to the rooms. The rooms are particular for their furnishing and charming views, that ranges over from the Castle to the Tiber Valley. You will discover charm, romanticism and relaxation walking in the beautiful garden to the woods, under the protection of the splendid sighting towers. Sitting in your deck chair in the sun, on a very green lawn, you are surrounded by the butterflies that have come back to witness the purity of the air and the equilibrium of the climate. At night, surrounded by the old street lights and the glow-worms, the illuminated manor will give you its reassuring strength and a little bit of dream and unreality. You can use the heated swimming pool in winter and summer. The pool can be opened or closed by a simple remote control. In winter there is direct entry through the lift and an underground tunnel. A well-equipped Beauty Farm with gyms, thermal cave, avant-garde equipment, various treatments and exercises will let you be pampered and experience well being, beauty and serenity again.
